ELF Essential Smudge Pot Swatches and Review

Call me crazy, call me a fool, call me anything you want to! Just don't call me a pot head...... wait!... That's the other way around, I AM A POT-HEAD!!! A smudge pot-head, paint pot-head, gel pot-head, basically any eyelid product that is cream, gel, mousse and the like, that comes in a pot I'm all over it!!!

Today's "pot-head" post is e.l.f(eyes lips face) essential Smudge Pot.  These little jars are brand new to the site and feature nine colors, from shimmery cream to a royal purple. The e.l.f. smudge pots has 0.190z/5.5grams of product each, and cost only $2  $3(Thanks to our reader for the heads up). They are from the "essential" line.

They are a gel product, which means they are not as creamy as a cream liner, they are easier to smudge/blend, they take longer to dry and they don't last as long on the lid. These smudge pots have somewhat of a mousse-like feel; very soft, air-like and emolient, but I'm not complaining! Most of them spread beautifully on my crepey, slightly hooded lids.  One big set back is I wasn't able to use them as liner, except for Brownie Points.  The others just kind of disappeared once I swiped across my lid.

The wear time varies for each color, they lasted anywhere from two to about four hours without primer, take into consideration I have extremely oily lids. The lighter shades have a lot more shimmer in the finish, while the mid to darker tones are more satin-like.

They come in a plastic container, even so, they look quite chic and non-offensive.  I hope they don't dry out easily considering they are in a plastic pot.  The brand, and product names are in a nice, understated silver font with  a white lid that has a silver accent line around it.  The colors of the name are on the bottom of the pot, don't expect for them to be in order, they are just randomly slapped on.  A good thing is on the outer packaging the ingredients are listed conveniently and there are directions on how to use the product.

You can get them online www.eyeslipsface.com, I haven't seen them at any local retailers yet. Plus e.l.f. is having 50% off sale when you order any "NEW/BESTSELLING" products, so these will only cost $1! Don't forget to use ebates(referral link), they are offering 4.5% on your e.l.f order right now!

e.l.f. says "This smooth gel formula glides on perfectly. Use it as a long-lasting eyeshadow or eyeliner! Enriched with Vitamin E to nourish and hydrate the delicate eye area. "
These remind me of the most recent Color Tattoos from Maybelline, in the the way they apply and their texture. Review to come for Color Tattoo soon.

  • Pearls Of Wisdom is a shimmery off white with sheer coverage. Most of what you see upon application is shimmer.  It wore for about two hours before creasing, but it did apply smoothly.  When I wore it on top of another product it lasted for about six hours and looked gorgeous! It's a great layering shade.
  • Ain't That Sweet? is a gorgeous duochrome of pink and purple with a shimmer finish, it's opalescence is truly beautiful, but it applied patchy, and was not as smooth as the other smudge pots. It also lasted for about two hours before creasing. This has a light to medium coverage.
  • Gotta Glow is a bright yellow gold with a shimmer finish.  It wore for about three hours and applied smoothly, and has a medium coverage.
  • Back To Basics is quite a beautiful neutral golden-bronze shade.  It has a medium coverage.  While it does have shimmer, it appears more satin like when worn, and swatched.  It lasted for about four hours before it started to crease.
  • Cruisin' Chic is a gorgeous medium taupe that has more of a satin finish, and medium coverage.  It wore for about four hours before creasing.
  • Brownie Points is a rich, true bronze that has medium coverage and wore for about five hours before creasing.  This shade is a beautiful bronze!
  • Poppin Party is a medium purple that has a medium coverage, and the easiest to spread on the lids.  It wore for about three hours before creasing.
  • Ocean Bound is a medium blue with a medium coverage.  It has a satin finish with a bit of shimmer throughout.  It wore for about four hours before creasing.
  • Hit The Town is a rich gunmetal color that applies well and has a medium coverage.  It only lasted for about three hours before creasing.
*Quick Tip: Store These Smudge Pots Upside Down
To Keep Them From Drying Out Too Fast.
*If You Find A Shade Doesn't Work For Your Skin Color
Use It As An Accent In Your Tear Duct/Lashline etc., Or As A Highlight.

While these only cost $2, e.l.f describes them as long-wearing. They are not!   I consider a "long-wearing" product like this to last at least 8 hours. You need to layer these with a primer and or shadow on top for longetivity.  All of the Smudge Pots are buildable in their coverage, they also layer well on top of, and under other products.  If I were to consider, I would repurchase Back To Basics, Cruisin' Chic and Brownie Points.  And I'll now be on the search for a pot product similar in color to "Ain't That Sweet?" #thestruggleisreal
